Not only that, but I have no window controls, and opening or closing anything results in an even more corrupted screen. If I try to enable it again, my screen comes up garbled and scrambled. For the past few days, Compiz has crashed randomly while I was in the middle of doing something. I successfully removed the black bar undertone, but that didn't help me much. The only system file I modified was gnome-shell.css in an effort to get my custom panel image to show under certain applets (like the hplip systray and notification applets). In all seriousness, something must've gotten screwed up. Everything was dandy, but that all changed when the fire nation attacked (sorry, I couldn't resist). I had completely removed *gags* Unity and gnome-screensaver, and was running gnome-shell with gnome 3 and compiz. Up until about a week ago, this computer was running fine.
